Lots of folks chose image 2 – the picture of the little girl running across a prairie field towards a house. I loved that one too! It was a hard choice. I picked the one above because it contains my past: thistle, juniper berries from the shrubs next to Grandma’s house, stalks of wheat, and of course, the dragonfly. This cover also contains my present: the verdant green of the Pacific Northwest, lavender, dried chamomile flowers that I use to create soap, and of course, the dragonfly.
Grandma told me that dragonflies are messages that the angels are watching over us. She said they were a reminder to have courage, that our miseries won’t last forever, and help will be there when we need it. Dragonflies are the link between my past and my present. I’ve been noticing a lot of dragonflies: in my backyard, when I’m walking the dog, even flying in front of my car at a stoplight. Their occurrence coincides with my recent cancer diagnosis. It is indeed a time for courage and a reminder that help will be there when I need it.
